The history behind the origin of strawberry-filled dumplings
The origin of making dumplings is related to Zhang Zhongjing, the medical saint in the Eastern Han Dynasty.
At that time, dumplings were used for medicinal purposes. Zhang Zhongjing used dough to wrap some cold-relieving herbs (mutton, pepper, etc.) to treat diseases and prevent patients from getting frostbite on their ears. From then on, the villagers and later generations imitated the production and called it “jiao’er”. There is a saying among the people that dumplings are the most delicious food. During the Spring Festival, dumplings are indispensable. According to the “Guangya” written by Zhang Yi of the Wei Dynasty during the Three Kingdoms period, there was a food called wonton in the shape of a crescent moon at that time, which is similar to the shape of dumplings today.
